The debaters, each representing a Northern European city, are:

Copenhagen: Lars Buch, partner & managing director of Startupbootcamp Copenhagen, previously R&D Director at Nokia

Stockholm: Henrik Dillman, co-founder of Mancx, winner of Arctic15 last year

Tallinn: Priit Salumaa, co-founder of Mooncascade, Garage48 and Mobile Monday Estonia

Moderator of the debate is internationally recognised entrepreneur Mohamed El-Fatatry, founder of Muxlim Inc., and currently the chairman and CEO of My Islamic Voice.

The panel will discuss the following competitive factors in particular:
- The availability of skilled people
- Availability and ease of access to financing
- The regulatory environment and government responsiveness and support
- Marketing and access to customers
- The availability of business infrastructure

The evening is created specifically to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, tech industry experts, and tech startups for a lively, informed and fun discussion. The debate will also contain an interactive voting quiz on mobile, courtesy Fruitboars, for the audience to participate in.

2Pears co-founder Petra Johansson comments: “There is a thriving tech startup scene in Europe which needs to celebrate its entrepreneurial spirit, while highlighting both the benefits and the challenges of growing out of a European country. This will help improve the business climate where necessary. The idea for #CityChallenge comes from on-going friendly banter on Twitter about which city in Northern Europe produces the best companies, and hosting the debate in conjunction with Arctic15 made perfect sense. All 2Pears events are focused on facilitating a productive dialogue between investors, entrepreneurs and technology businesses, with the aim to achieve a 4.5 times return on investment for all parties involved.”

Tuomas Kosonen, partner with Inventure, says: “As we are keen to see a continued stream of interesting and talented new early stage tech startups, we are delighted to support #CityChallenge by 2Pears, which will effectively highlight the excellent growth opportunities for companies in Northern Europe. We are looking forward to a fun evening of robust debate involving both investors and entrepreneurs.”

Mari Aaltonen from UK Trade & Investment explains: ”The UKTI objective is to support the growth and internationalisation of tech companies. We are naturally delighted to see Scott Sage defending London as the European Silicon Valley.
We are looking forward to an interesting debate and thrilled to see so many thriving startup cities represented.”

The event is supported by media partners Financial Times and Mediatainment Finance.

The 2. NordicMeetup on May 26.

It is time for the 2. NordicMeetup on May 26, 2010 at our favourite spot - Ruby’s. We are co-locating the event together with TechCrunch Europe who is in Copenhagen for their third TCNordic event.

Since NordicMeetup got sold out in 1.5 hour - and before we had a chance to publish the tickets, we have arranged with TechCrunch Europe that if you buy a ticket to TCNordic, you will get a special offer by using the promotion code: nordicmeetup giving you access to the evening event as well.

This time BvHD has made NordicMeetup a reality, by sponsoring the ticket to a free drink at Ruby. PetraI are so thrilled to see the amazing support for NordicMeetup, people are offering their help, also with co-hosting in other Nordic cities - and most of all by showing up, having fun and supporting the Nordic startup environment, this is exactly what we hoped for. Looking forward to see you at NordicMeetup!

NordicMeetup - Connecting the Copenhagen Startup Scene.

A year ago I attended Geek’n´Rolla in London organised By TechCrunch Europe. The following day I was invited to attend a meetup called DrinkTank sponsored by the London startup Huddle. I was told that the purpose of the monthly event is to have an informal meeting point where startups, investors and other people related to tech and entrepreneurship can meet and kick tires. This event reminded me that we needed a meeting point not only to connect Copenhagen, but also to connect like-minded people in the  Nordic area.

What characterises thriving startup environments, is a well connected community, events, proximity to money, creativity and talent. The vision with NordicMeetup is to strengthen the local scenes and to concurrent connect the Nordic cities with each other, to benefit from more scale than a small scene can provide.

Together with Petra Johansson, I started to organise the event. And now NordicMeetup is finally a reality thanks to our sponsors Sunstone Capital and StartupBootcamp.

We will start out in Copenhagen, on April, 8. More info and registration at NordicMeetup.
